I previously extracted the uDig in Win and then copied it to linux so it did'nt work. This time I extracted the zip archive directly in linux using Ark and it worked just fine without any change. So, what you said is right and extracting it in Win caused the problem (not marking the udig_internal and supposedly other executables of jre as executable). Thanks a lot Andrea

Hi Farzad,
I think this is doe to the fact that it was zipped instead of tar.gz,
and therefore lost the execution permission.

Could you please try to run the command:
chmod a+x udig_internal

from within the udig folder and see if it works afterwards?
