Okay this feature is simply huge - and represents a change of approach for the project. Traditionally uDig has supported a small number of geotools datastores, databases and fileformats which we test and produce a nice wizard for.
Quite frankly we have not been able to keep up.
This feature supports the creation of a "generic" geotools datastore wizard allowing people to connect to any of the geotools formats currently listed in refresh.xml (ie on the classpath).
Thus far it should offer an alternative to the postgis, db2, mysql wizards that we have had a hard time fixing with no volunteer+database to verify corrections.
The work has been tested with:
- versioned postgis (edit *and* keep a record)
- properties file format
- oracle (I think)
