Re: [udig-devel] Scala

Fun :-) I have also introduced Scala to a few people here at work. And turns out a couple of them had the Scala guy as a teach at their university in South Australia.

Daily blogs are tough -  best of luck :-) Go Jesse

Hi,

As many of my friends know I have been quite passionate about the Scala programming language.  I consider it a great successor to Java.  It is statically typed but has the power of languages like Ruby and Groovy.  As a consequence I have decided to start a Scala blog.  It will be updated daily with Scala snippets.  There will be minimal explanation as the snippets are intended to more or less stand alone.  The snippets are created using the Scala REPL (more or less command-line interpreter for scala).

I am trying to start with the basic concepts and progress to the more advanced concepts as time moves forward.  Hopefully, it can be a way for people to familiarize themselves with Scala without a large time investment. Just 5 minutes a day or so.

It is not required but I would recommend downloading scala and playing with the snippets in the REPL as well.  (Obviously optional).

Scala website: http://www.scala-lang.org/

Let me know if you have suggestions,

Jesse
