You also need to download/install J2SE 5.0 Release 1 from
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java2se50release1.html

However, UDIG 1.0.1 is not really ready for prime time on OSX.

hello,

it's strange as Udig uses Generics and Enums not availlable in J2SE   
1.4.2

  I don't understand how it's possible for you to use whole udig...

yes i upgraded to Tiger in order to "enjoy" uDig
