[udig-devel] [jira] Created: (UDIG-356) Style Controller too Detailed

Style Controller too Detailed
-----------------------------

         Key: UDIG-356
         URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/UDIG-356
     Project: uDIG
        Type: Improvement
  Components: style
    Versions: UDIG 0.9
 Environment: All
    Reporter: Paul Ramsey
 Assigned to: Justin Deoliveira
    Priority: Minor
     Fix For: UDIG 1.0.RC

The little buttons at the top of the main style controller (the colored box, the letter) have drop-down lists even though there is only one sub-controller for each option. If you simply click on the box or the letter, nothing happens; you have to actually open the wee drop-down list to get the panel you need. As dblasby noted, the "Styled Layer Descriptor" dropdown is also confusing. There is only one option, and it is not clear what it means at a user level.

"Sensible defaults" means only exposing as much functionality as the user can reasonably and regularly use. Dead end options and single-item dropdowns add confusing detail while increasing flexibility and usability not a jot.
