Re: [sumo-user] Remove lanes to get continuous lateral spaces

That helps, and I will investigate to see if I have further questions. Thanks Jakob!

Free lateral movement is possible with the sublane model (regardless of lane markings). See https://sumo.dlr.de/docs/Simulation/SublaneModel.html
It is still recommended to retain turning lanes for better organization of turning movements.

Hello,

I have a special need on road lateral spaces and would like to check if this is possible in sumo:

By default, the lateral spaces are divided by lanes with specified lane width. In my special case, I would like vehicles to travel freely laterally, without having to follow lane markings. So I am wondering whether this can be realized in sumo, and if so, how to achieve this?

As a initial thought on solutions, I thought of removing lane markings. In addition to this, I guess the default car-following/lane change models need to be removed as well. Otherwise, vehicles will still following each other as if the lane markings is there. If this is correct, could you also provide some information on how to remove lane markings and modify the built-in car-following models?

Thank you!

Best,
Di
