In many application areas of microscopic traffic simulations such as traffic management, routing and v2x communication, kinematic models have not been deemed necessary as far as I know. This may change as we are getting more focus on topics like safety but I cannot name a publication that details the impact.

Sumo does not work at this level of detail. The vehicles speeds are determined mostly by a car-following model that uses gap, leader speed and desired speed with some simple constraints on acceleration and deceleration.
