Hi,
there is no general answer to this question since the length of the edge
depends on the shape of the junctions which in turn depend on the other
edges ending and starting there. If there is no other edge or only a
straight connection the effect is 0 so the length will be 1000. For the
car position: It is relative to the edge length so your assumption is
correct.
