[quantum-computing-wg] Open Quantum AI researcher position

The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI)
very cordially invites applications for the open position of a
researcher for Quantum Artifical Intelligence (QAI).

This full-time researcher position is initially for a limited period of three years.
The QAI researcher at DFKI is expected to focus on basic research and development of
novel hybrid quantum-classical AI algorithms for selected, computationally hard AI problems
with applications in the automotive industry such as for optimal production planning and
collision-free navigation of self-driving cars.
In particular, the extent to which the adaptation of selected classical AI methods for quantum computing
using suitable existing and possibly further or newly developed quantum algorithms (quantum circuits)
is theoretically feasible and beneficial shall be investigated in depth.
Apart from simulation on a classical computer, the partial execution of developed hybrid QAI algorithms
on a real quantum computer will be part of the investigation.
This researcher position at DFKI comes with the option of advancing to senior level
after default probation period subject to respective evaluation result.

Who:
The position requires a PhD or excellent master degree either in computer science with focus on AI,
or in physics with focus on quantum computing.
Good knowledge of the mathematics of quantum computation, quantum algorithms/circuits,
machine learning, in particular (deep) reinforcement learning, and optimisation are required.
Programming experience (e.g., Python, Java, C++, TensorFlow, Xanadu PennyLane, IBM QISKit),
good command of written and spoken English,
a high level of commitment, strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently are expected.

Where:
The DFKI is one of the worldwide largest AI research centers and located on an awarded location for
computer science in the city of Saarbruecken in Southwestern Germany.
The basic research in the future-oriented Quantum AI field with application to automotive industry
will be carried out in the DFKI Agents and Simulated Reality department led by Prof. Dr. Philipp Slusallek,
under the supervision of PD Dr. Matthias Klusch in the Intelligent Information Systems research team.
In particular, the QAI research will be carried out within a joint project with partners from quantum labs
in the automotive industry and Jülich Supercomputing Centre JSC.

How:
To apply, please send your meaningful application (including cover letter; professional CV;
scanned copies of relevant transcripts of records and certificates) in a single PDF file
by email to PD Dr. Matthias Klusch at matthias.klusch@xxxxxxx
as soon as possible until May 7, 2021, 5pm CEST.

We are looking for a motivated researcher to start as soon as possible!

For inquiries, please contact PD Dr. Matthias Klusch at matthias.klusch@xxxxxxx at any time
(preferably before end of April).

DFKI is an equal opportunity employer. Priority will be given to applicants with severe disabilities
if their professional and personal qualifications are essentially the same. DFKI intends to increase
the proportion of women in science and therefore expressly invites women to apply.
