It was only in the event that you had a shared filesystem so you could set up the sync to that machine, but have the files accessible on the main system where presumably it needs to be built. The build only requires a single ssh connection, so it should work with just about any kind of tunnel. Syncing also happens across a single channel, but if you want to use remote includes then you need a couple of channels and an sftp service as well.
Greg My apologies if I am missing something, but how would having a separate sync and build configuration help with getting through the intermediate node to the internal node? Also, I am assuming that even if there is a separate build configuration, it would be using the same connection abstraction to submit the build commands to the remote machine, so I would still have to resolve the original issue.
