Actually, I'm not. It's all in my
workspace though.
I tend to do the testing of the
parts of PTP I'm not working on (mostly non-PLDT) on our
builds that we do on the eclipse servers.

Ah, I missed the "not" in your message before. Well anyway, thanks

Thanks for the additional information,
Beth!
I will study "self-hosting". When I additionally used the
"install" of PTP/Photran on top of the Git versions, the Fortran
perspective appeared in the runtime app -- so I see what you are
saying about "don't have to be able to build *everything*
perfectly from source".
I am almost up and running, but not quite. Next, I need to make
a fortran project in the run time app, then try a remote
configuration. Making progress though. I am glad you are
trying to build everything from scratch -- that might be of use
to us both.
cheers,

Well, some of the stuff that you need to actually run, we
don't build usually from our workbenches, but they are built
on the eclipse build server.
There's probably a more complicated answer but I'm basically
trying to get you up and running, running from source code
only the parts that you would change in eclipse plugin source.

functionality.
Then in the Run Configuration when you launch the 'Runtime
App' (PTP etc. as 'Eclipse Application') you need to tweak the
plugins that
are dragged along from your development workbench. It's in
the 'Plug-ins' tab of the run config.
If you want more info, read up on plug-in development, esp.
the self-hosting aspect (running eclipse from eclipse, which
is what you're doing here).
(I see later you got this working.)
> Greg just sent an email about some Photran problems.
Could that be it?
If you were hitting that, you'd have build errors in your
workspace.
P.S. I'm not building everything from source myself. I
typically build and test a subset of the PTP projects in my
development workbench.
The rest I test from a build we do on the eclipse build
server.
I don't know if anyone is building *everything* in their own
workspace.
So even tho I have to clone the whole repo to use git, I may
ignore some build errors in projects I don't muck with, and
that don't affect the stuff I'm working on.
Others may disagree. :) And your mileage may vary.
So, in summary, you don't have to be able to build
*everything* perfectly from source in order to be productive
in development of what you want to focus on.

Not if you want to develop code. Otherwise you will soon be
left behind when Juno is released this summer. Keep going,.
you're close :)
Sounds like you may have missed a couple of steps in
http://wiki.eclipse.org/PTP/environment_setup_60
I do want to develop in Photran, so I will stick to Juno.
I did not install PTP/Photran with "Install New Software",
just the CDT, which gave me the "8.1.0.201112121634" release
version. I thought that if you "install" a package, say PTP,
and then get the master branch from Git, then the resulting
app would get the packages from the Git version. Seems like
your are saying that you need to get versions of
CDT/PTP/Photran from both the "install" method and Git. Is
that right?
Definitely did this, I am using the plugins to get the Git
versions of PTP and Photran in the main development IDE. That
works fine. It's just the Runtime App that is missing the Git
functionality.
Other tricks (technically should not be necessary but
sometimes it can kick it into waking up)
- close and reopen eclipse workbench after you have
installed a bunch of new stuff
- close project and reopen a project that seems stuck
- Project > Build All
Hum? I did a restart and that fixed the Git problem in the
App. Still no Fortran perspective in the App, so it seems
there are some major problems still. Greg just sent an email
about some Photran problems. Could that be it?
Thanks!
