We had an extensive discussion on API exporting, un-exporting, what our policy should be, and how to remediate all our plug-ins with (incorrectly) exported API (made public when we probably shouldn't have)

See especially the section on "API exporting" and the last bullet on "New PTP Policy" and see if it makes sense to you.
It took me a while for me to get my head around everything (why, how, etc) so wanted to explain it well.
