Thanks to all for answering my question. I
am a humble state employee developing in SWT with Eclipse IDE. Unfortunately we
are disallowed from using newsgroups. I did finally figure the resolution to my
problem! (Trying to address a non final variable in an anonymous inner class).

I was working under the assumption that this list
was for those of us who use SWT in projects, however I find this list extremely
informative.
I'm the sole blind developer with the Canadian Revenue Agency
and I'm actively pressing for a replacement of the Sun Access Bridge in favour of the SWT approach to
accessibility.

It was intended to be a place to discuss SWT implementation issues.
In practice, whenever any interesting discussion starts, we immediately create
a Bugzilla bug for it so that the entire discussion can be captured in one
place (i.e. nothing is lost in random email threads).
In addition, if we track everything in Bugzilla, then when the bug is closed,
it means that the issue is resolved.

...may I ask a rather silly question: What is the intended purpose of this
list... all joking aside?

Basic SWT questions are best asked on the SWT newsgroup.
First, you might want to look through http://www.eclipse.org/swt/
and maybe run some snippets, get the eclipse examples and try them, look at the
FAQ, and read a few articles on the documentation page.
If you still have a question, the newsgroup is here:

Have fun!
