Maybe. See my previous post.
But it's hard to tell. To
what SWT equivalents are the shift, control, option and command keys
mapped to? Whatever it is is bound to be confusing, as SWT already has mappings
for CTRL, ALT and SHIFT, all of which are on the Macintosh keyboard, but nothing
that corresponds to COMMAND. I hope you're not just leaving out a modifier key.

Sorry. I failed to say what I
intended to.
What we need to do
is: 1) allow menu options to fire
based on key presses. 2) allow special
keys to be typed on the keyboard.
It seems like all that needs to happen to do this is to look at the
values which are passed to setAccelerator in MenuItem, and hook the command
key whenever we see SWT.CONTROL. Everything else should just work. Am I
wrong?

I don't know what the discussion is
about, but the "ALT" key is the equivalent of the "option" key. Using the
"command" key in replacement for the ALT/option key is not a real good
idea. The command key is used for shortcuts. This could be quite
confusing.
