Hello all,
I've recently been reading up on the Eclipse platform and SWT in
particular. I'm very excited about the SWT as I think it represents a
better direction for Java GUI programming than AWT and Swing.
I've been following some of the posts to this mailing list on the Mac
OSX port. I'm an advocate of the Cocoa approach, and I'd like to
contribute, if possible. I've never written a Mac or NeXT application,
but I have Swing/AWT experience that I think will be useful. I also have
experience with the Win32 SDK that I can leverage to help understand the
Windows implementation.
I have a couple of questions about SWT that I haven't been able to find
answers to myself yet. I'm hoping someone out there might know:
- Is/will the SWT be redistributable outside of Eclipse? If so, how?
- Are there any plans to provide applet support for SWT-based programs?
It seems like only applications are supported now (via the Shell class).
- SWT seems like a great platform for developing PDA applications, and I
understand that there is an effort underway to port SWT to Windows CE.
Is anyone working on a Palm OS port of SWT? If so, I'd also be
interested in helping out with that. If not, maybe I will start one. :-)
Thanks for your help. Looking forward to hearing from you.
