RE: [platform-releng-dev] How to get eclipse-SDK-3.2*-solaris-motif ?
|
Hi Kim,
thanks a lot for acting so quickly and fixing the source
build for solaris-motif again.
I'll give it a try as soon as I'll get the next
N-build.
You mention "committers that contribute
builds...".
We might be interested in contributing solaris-motif builds
and automated tests
on a regular basis. What does it take to become "official
contributor" of such builds,
and where would such contributed builds be listed and
accessible?
Regarding the Reference Platforms in the 3.2 plan document,
I see a minor
inconsistency:
* Solaris-motif was dropped as reference with the
Feb.14, 2006 revision. But it
was not added in the paragraph "Similarly, although untested, the
Eclipse
SDK should work fine..." ... that holds Linux-motif among others. Perhaps
that
omission was by accident only. I guess we'd feel better
if solaris-motif were there.
Whom
could we contact regarding this? Or should we file a bugzilla for
this?
Thanks again,
Martin

Doug, Linux-motif-x86 is still in
the build but as you note, not in the 3.2 plan.
The bug I referred to is to get the solaris-motif-sparc
back in the platform source build, not in the regular build. This will allow
contributors to build it themselves if they so desire. We don't intend
to add it back to the regular build.
A committer will generally assign a higher priority to fixing a bug on
a reference platform. Fixes for non-reference platforms may be on a best
effort basis. You mention "community support" for a platform.
I hear "willingness to build, run automated tests, fix bugs, and
apply patches for that platform." For instance, we have a couple of
committers that contribute builds for platforms that we do not build as part
of the releng process. They are responsible for using the source drop
to build it and run automated tests. If there was a bug that was
specific to that platform, we would reassign it to them.

I understand. I wouldn’t expect the Platform team to
support/build non-reference platforms. And the list has been available since
the 3.2 plan was put out months ago. I should also expect the Linux Motif
build to disappear as well, no?
Can I also
expect that if the community rallied to support Solaris/Linux Motif, i.e. did
the work to make sure these builds met the requirements of being a reference
platform, we can get these builds re-added?

I removed it from the build because
-It is
not a reference platform anymore
-It is has low download numbers and we
are trying to reduce the amount of data we push to eclipse.org and
mirrors.

How to get eclipse-SDK-3.2*-solaris-motif
? |
|
Hello,
I noticed that Eclipse 3.2 download pages no longer
have a package
for the SDK on Solaris-motif.
I searched the
newsgroups, mailinglists, plan documents and bugzilla
entries but couldn't
find a message that the solaris-motif package
were officially being
discontinued. I know that it's not a reference
platform any more (that has
moved to Solaris 10/GTK), but there are
other packages created too, for
platforms that are not Reference.
I saw that the SWT package is
available for solaris-motif, but it's
organized in a completely different
directory structure.
We have customers who need Solaris-motif. Would it
be too much asking
if the build machine could pick up Solaris-Motif builds
again? Or
what other steps could we take to get an
Eclipse-3.2-solaris-motif
package?
