Re: [pdt-dev] [FAQ] add description and differentiation fromphpeclipse.de
|
Call it coincidence, but exactly same time PhpIDE (PDT) project was
started, PhpEclipse.de project came to halt.
Probably developers of PHPEclipse.de understood that their efforts are
not so meaningful anymore since Eclipse Foundation have serious PDT
project in the works. Phpeclipse.de is inactive for a year now, you
can call it "dead".
Maybe this divide was a result of statement published by PDT that
"PHPEclispe.de project has different architecture and PDT will not
cooperate with phpeclispe.de". I believe it was published in this same
mailing list.
As a result of all this- who suffers the most? The developer
community. For more than year now we are left with two similar
projects, both not being actively developed. PhpEclipse.de is dieing.
PDT is not picking up speed. Focus is on features like debugging,
while trivial features like "mark occurrences" or Smarty syntax
highlighter is not implemented.
Maybe it's time to put aside differences and join forces with phpeclipse.de?
Regards.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the suggestions. I will update most of them in the FAQ and
site pages.
The PDT project is not related to PHPEclipse project and the
implementation of the different features is different.
We might cooperate with PHPEclipse developers in the future.
Thanks for the feedbacks,

Subject: [pdt-dev] [FAQ] add description and differentiation
fromphpeclipse.de
Thank you for the work you all are doing on Eclipse.
May I suggest some documentation?
-------------------------------
On the FAQ page
http://www.eclipse.org/pdt/faq.php
(Answer 5, make suggestion)
please someone correct the link to the "PDT mailing list" - it is
pointing to the non-existent php-dev instead of pdt-dev.
Same link under (answer 3).
-------------------------------
On the PDT FAQ page please elaborate Answer 1.
Maybe it is clear for you developers what you intend to produce under
the name
"a fully functional PHP Integrated Development Environment
framework"
For me the phrase is rather a collection of catchwords.
I suppose PDT is going to be:
- a editing environment with
o syntax highlighting
o formatting tools
o auto completion
o error checking
- test environment with
o JUnit integration
o debugging support
- Integration with Web-browser to show effect of changes
- support for
o versioning
o collaboration
o deployment
-----------------------------------
On the PDT FAQ page (and/or other pages) I should like to see how PDT
differentiates itself from the PHPeclipse project (http://
www.phpeclipse.de).
(The PHPeclipse project seems to have come to a standstill in 2006.
I was a happy user of PHPeclipse up to an Eclipse update (I think
3.1) after which I could not get my web-pages to display in the
PHPbrowser.)
Is PDT going to be a successor to PHPeclipse? Or is it something
different?
Thanks again
