[pde-dev] How to display continues progress on Action bars?

Hi,

I need to show time elapsed on actions bars but as place for action bars is shared between views and editors, displayed information vanishes as focus shifts from view to different view or editor. 
Where should i display information which should be continuesly updating information irrespective of focus or any other operation?
I'm not looking to display using monitors. It should be visible and continuesly updating without progress bar. 

Is there any other way to achieve the above?
Please suggest and provide pointer.
