For what it is worth I personally prefer irc over any hipchat, slack for
a community project etc. for the exact
reason that you say - finding and getting on them are hard compared
public irc.

A few Orion committers are on #eclipse-orion IRC, but it's usually
deader
than disco.
Anton and I created a nascent orion slack <https://orionhub.slack.com>
a
few months ago, but it hasn't seen any use yet.
I like slack, but one drawback is the difficulty for new community
members
to join. Unlike an open IRC channel, slack appears to require admin
approval before you can get in. It can be "opened up" a bit by
allowing
open registration based on email domain, but even then they block
common
free ones like gmail.com.
Thoughts?

Hey,
Is #eclipse-Orion on irc in use ?
Seems very quiet. Heard talks about there being a slack room used by
Orion
IBMers instead ?
Is that something the community can join ?
