Simon, 

A separate repository for the store within Orion would be great. I have
no idea how long it would take, but this is definitely something we should
go for. As I recall, Ken had some detailed information on the manner and
it was his initial idea to ban external contributions up until we pull
the code into the Orion source code. Probably I'll be the only contributor
until October. Regardless,  I'm in favor of sharing the code as a
separate Orion repository.

Technology choices look fine however this sounds like preliminary work
so I wonder if there is a reason why we wouldn't host the store code as
part of the Orion repo (e.g. in a sub-repo (say "catalog" or
"store") similar to "client" and "server")
and then encourage external contributions from those with a CLA?

We might still host the store/catalog at github to make it easy for others
to access.

Hi all, 

We've finally come up with a suitable solution to the Orion Store for plugins
problem. Since not everyone is up-to-date on the manner, let me give you
a brief background first. We need a store for Orion plugins. This store
should  provide some basic catalog functionalities as well as be highly
integrated with Orion itself (two-click plugin installation, seamless plugin
development and publishing, etc.) Our first idea was to go to Eclipse Marketplace
and create a catalog for Orion. For legal reasons (GPL licenses basically)
this cannot be accomplished the way we want, in the time we want (by EclipseCon
in October). The solution we've come up is: 

I'll create our own Orion Store from scratch. The store project will be
under EPL with code hosted at github. No external contributions will be
accepted (for legal reasons). I'm not 100% sure, but the technology I'm
going to use is probably NodeJS. We are discussing with the foundation
over creating a link from Eclipse Marketplace to our Orion store. If everything
goes as planned, by EclipseCon we should have a working Orion store catalog,
basic integration with Orion and an Eclipse Marketplace link to our store.
The will be probably hosted on the same domain as orionhub.org. 

If anyone feels that different approaches is terms of used frameworks,
repositories and other, would be better, please let me know. External contributions
cannot be accepted, however good pointers are most welcome :) If you have
any questions, don't hesitate to email me.
