Re: [orion-dev] LotD: editor style shots.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the feedback about the navigation. I glanced at a screen-shot of Koding's navigation and made some guesses as to why you think it looks less crude. I made a bug to reflect on your observation. If you have a few minutes, maybe you can critique or add to it.

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=376360

Having a navigation that can be skinned is I'm sure one of the desires for the user interface. The css can be tweaked right now, it isn't too bad. I wonder if the best approach would be again to be able to provide a way of linking to an external style sheet as a setting in a publicly hosted Orion. I'd like to discuss that with some members of the team. The style sheets of a self hosted Orion can just be edited, but maybe we need to allow for externally hosted css files to be read and become the source of style for this and for a set of Orion elements ( as settings ).

Short answer, as I understand it is that 'convenient' skinning of navigation and other parts of the UI ultimately is a goal.

Hi Anton,

Thanks for the mockups.  I was aware that colours can be modified - although I haven't tinkered with much of that myself (offering themes would probably be how I'd try that out).

Although the editor now looks different, things like the navigator still look (err, how do I phrase this nicely...), a bit crude .  Not in terms of colours, more in terms of the boxes/arrows/icons - not sure if their just too big for my tastes, or there is too much clutter, or what it is. I just don't find the orion navigator layout as appealing as something like the one in the koding editor.  Do you know if there are plans to allowing theming to that extreme?  If I change the CSS do I have the level of control to change that, or would I need to do real programming?

cheers,
Andy

    Hi Andy,

The JS Editor is programmed to accept different themes. We also have a settings page at the moment that allows you to change the current settings on the fly without coding. For instance here's a screenshot of the editor how I like it:

And a stab at a dark one like Koding:

McQ's post on this thread has me thinking to 'can' a few themes including the default one. I might see if I can do that quickly. I should also be able to allow a user to link an externally hosted css file.

To see the settings part you can go to the settings page in the user menu.

Does that answer your question? We're only really beginning to use settings. I'm working now on integrating them with the plugins.
