Re: [openpass-sc] Introuducing Eclipse Foundation Interest Groups

Dear Sharon,

thanks for the information. The next SC meeting will take place on November 3rd, 2 pm European time. Would that work for you?

After your presentation, we could discuss this model at the workshop we have planned on Nov 9 in Munich.

When we founded the openPASS WG for our purpose, one crucial aspect was to have a Working Group Charter, defining the cooperation model. When I read “Participation in Interest Groups is self managed by Member organizations, and there are no formal participation agreements, budgets, or committees”, this needs to be evaluated.

Take care,

Jan

Betreff: [openpass-sc] Introuducing Eclipse Foundation Interest Groups

[**EXTERNAL E-MAIL**]

Dear Steering Committee:

I am reaching out to you on behalf of the Eclipse Foundation’s Working Group’s team to introduce the topic of Interest Groups which we have established as another form of Industry Collaborations at the Eclipse Foundation.  Interest Groups represent the next step in furthering our governance framework to empower members to collaborate together now using a lighter-weight organizational structure than formal working groups.

We have just rolled out the framework to facilitate Interest Groups and I am reaching out to all Working Groups that have no participation fees to introduce the Interest Group option and arrange for a time to present an overview and discuss. I will also propose a transition timeline as we believe an Interest Group might prove to be a more suitable governance model for OpenPASS and its members to support at this time.

FYI, the new Interest Group Process identifies the basic tenets of an Interest Group and we have also created an FAQ which identifies the benefits of an Interest Group over a Working Group.

I look forward to joining the next Steering Committee meeting to explain Interest Groups in greater detail and discuss next steps. Could you please introduce the topic as an agenda item, and add me to the meeting invitation. Additionally, if you are attending EclipseCon, the general topic of Interest Groups will be included in the Members Meeting on Wednesday.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,
