Dear Modeling PMC,
I’ve sent a new project proposal to the EMO
which is strongly related to the Eclipse Modeling Project.
Normally project proposals (at least official ones) involve the
hosting PMC before they're submitted to the EMO...
This proposal is about technical
architecture modeling (TAM) which is the standard for modeling
and describing technical architecture at SAP (please refer to:
http://www.fmc-modeling.org/fmc-and-tam).
Do you use the term "standard" loosely? I generally interpret the
term as implying some type of vendor-neutral standards body being
involved.
It is a combination of the Unified Modeling
Language (UML) and Fundamental Modeling Concepts (FMC). This
pragmatic combination resulted from modeling best practices at
SAP defining a subset of diagram types and elements of both
standards.
The best results are often based on a pragmatic approach...
TAM uses subsets of UML Activity, State
and Sequence diagrams to model behavioral aspects, Class
Diagrams to model data structures and relations and FMC Block
diagrams for compositional structures. In this proposed
project a FMC Block diagram editor based on Eclipse Graphiti
is planned to be developed, whereas the UML diagram types
should be taken from Papyrus UML.
You really need to show us a project proposal and you're generally
better to approach the PMC.
Hence, I proposed the EMO to make the TAM
project a subproject of MDT.
All the container projects are in the process of being eliminated.
Any grouping or categorization will be achieved by the website
(sadly making no progress)....
However, the MDT project seems to be
eliminated in the future.
Indeed.
This is why the EMO proposed to make the
project a subproject of the Eclipse Modeling Project.
Yes, all projects new and existing will nest directly under the top
level modeling project. I would really appreciate the PMC being
involved directly.
Looking at your links so far, I'm a bit concerned how this will
morph into something that has at least some appearance of vendor
neutrality. So far I see a sea of SAP everywhere I look.
Hence, I contacted you. What do you think?
I am also looking for potential mentors for this project.
I'm happy to help out how I can. So far the involvement of the PMC
seems to have been bypassed. Probably I'm I reading too much into
"I've sent a new project proposal to the EMO". Here's what project
proposals look like:
http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/
What can I do to help you produce such a proposal?
