[mobile-iwg] Eclipse IP policy implications for MADK SDK distribution model
|
I would like to raise this issue to the groups awareness:
Please review https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=246945
especially the comment by John:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=246945#c12
The outcome of this bug can greatly influence how we can integrate
"Non-EPL" Mobile SDK's with the Mobile ADK.
The current vision for the MADK is to have a pre-configured P2
repository which will allow to download
the proprietary or GPL licensed SDK and install on a user machine.
Note, there is no code dependency, or any linking. In most cases the
interaction with the NonEPL code is
through commandline syntax, like UEI.
In the case of a tighter coupling (e.g. as intended by RIM) we will have
to architect suitable insulation layers
to satisfy the separation of EPL and nonEPL code.
Ian, can we get an opinion from Janet whether our intended use-case is
exempt from the issue
described in this Bug?
If not, this would be another critical dependency for the MADK
quick-install feature and I
refer to Mike's comment #11: "Unfortunately we cannot predict the
outcome, nor the timing."
