Re: [milo-dev] Eclipse Milo OPC UA Pub/Sub protocol

I get it, but I'm in a situation where one of our sensors already push data into a MQTT Pub / Sub and I somehow need to wrote some connector on my Scala layer to connect to this and read the data and then subsequently push it to Kafka. I already have a streaming connector that can connect to several protocols like OPC, OPC UA, MQTT, BacNet and so on and now I need a connector that can talk to this particular OPC sensor that can send data using the Pub / Sub OPC protocol... I haven't read the specification of this Pub / Sub protocol... may be I will take a look later on...

But your sourcewerk looks interesting!

Thats correct.
You can make specific or wildcard subscriptions to any OPC UA Server using the OPC UA binary protocol and push data into Kafka topics.
You can use it as a Kafka Source Connector or as a “Source” Application in Spring Data Flow for building and managing data pipelines.

My question was more towards the OPC UA Pub/Sub protocol and the possibility of using this with Eclipse Milo!

I just answered because of this …

Hi,

I always wondered and not figured it out why there is no OPC Vendor support Kafka instead of MQTT or AMQP.

Hi,

we’ve developed an OPC UA Connector/Client for our Data Streaming Plattform - sourcewerk Stream (see https://sourcewerk.de/en/stream/) which has Apache Kafka as the messaging layer. The OPC UA Connector/Client is based on Milo 0.3.

If someone is interested to push OPC UA data subscription data into Kafka….get in touch with us.

Primary reason as I understand- MQTT very light weight protocol perfect for devices with low resources.

I have done a POC on this where devices sends message to AWS MQTT and I decode and send to Kafka in canonical form.

Hi Kevin,

Of course I can. I just try to understand why Mqtt and Amqp.

It makes sense if they are part of the specification.

Kafka is not part of the OPC UA spec.

There's nothing stopping you from building your own OPC UA client that collects data and publishes it via Kafka.

I think, Kafka is so important other than because at the end, every company must process these data and Kafka is the best for storing, messaging and integration to other big data tools.

Can anyone have any idea why it is like that?

It's a huge effort that I'm planning for version 2.0 of Milo.

Right now I'm focused on version 1.0 implementing OPC UA 1.03

No, PubSub support is not going to happen for a while. It requires OPC UA 1.04 and Milo is currently 1.03.
