I need to know number of active m2e installations, including version of
m2e, version of eclipse and version java used by the installation. To
the best of my knowledge, none of existing eclipse.org facilities can
provide me this data.

My preferred solution is to have active installation count implemented
at eclipse platform level, enabled by default with a way to disable it.
This is what already happens with p2 download stats, so I think it is
within realm of possibilities. Failing that, I plan to work Eclipse
Foundation to find least intrusive way to collect the data I need. I
will update bug 416371 as I learn more about this.
