The generic editor is part of Eclipse Platform 4.7.M3 https://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/news/4.7/M3/#generic-editor , its existing APIs and extension-points should be stable and it is backward compatible with Eclipse Neon, so it can be installed in Eclipse 4.6.
Further work on the Generic Editor will be addition of new extension points and APIs, all in a backward-compatible way, so LSP4E shouldn't be broken by it without notice.
