Re: [technology-pmc] Additional answers to queries from legal

Dear all,

To give you an update on the status of the JAI project potentially coming to the Eclipse Foundation/LocationTech, I received the following reply from Oracle/Xavier Lopez:
"As a follow-up, we will have to wait until January 2019 before we can proceed with open sourcing JAI.  There will be a planned Oracle database release that includes additional JAI security fixes that Oracle legal/development require before the JAI kit is open sourced."

I imagine that - given the above - the RPE project needs to be discussed within the PMC, in terms of exposure, timing and possible way forward.

To be clear, the end result is still uncertain at this point. I will keep you posted re further developments.
Last but not least, I want to give a big shout out to Xavier. We wouldn't have come this far without his enduring efforts.
