Hi Everybody,
I am Ben Searle, currently working at the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) as a geospatial specialist.
I have a long history within the geospatial community, working in oceanographic data management for many years and more recently land information management at state and federal levels. My work at ABS has been around developing a concept I have created called the Statistical Spatial Framework (SSF).
The SSF is about providing socio-economic information a common and consistent approach to adding a location attribute. The spatial community tends to focus on natural and built environment and governments are more interested in people and economic factors when creating policy or spending money.
There appears to be little consistency on a national or global scale to bring the location element to the socio-economic information used to provide evidence based decisions. The SSF aims to provide this.
There appears to be interest from governments, and also the private sector in this concept since it can be applied to business intelligence applications.
Anyway, I believe that through the LocationTech group, there may be ways of progressing the SSF concept and perhaps developing some relevant Infrastructure to support it's use.
I hope that this may be of interest to the group and look forward to being able to contribute to the groups efforts.
Kind regards
