Re: [location-iwg] uDig LocationTech proposal taking shape

Jody,
For what it's worth, I like trying this idea as others will likely
benefit from the knowledge sharing.
Thank you for your efforts and leading the charge.

Morning All:
As mentioned at the end of the last meeting uDig is taking the first
steps towards putting a proposal together. I figured it would be
useful to share the steps, questions and progress with the
LocationTech email list. The uDig project has fairly thick skin and
does not mind making mistakes in public as long as it gives us all a
chance to learn.
Would this be an acceptable "community building" exercise for the
LocationTech email list? Or would you prefer us to report back when
the proposal is ready….
Background
The uDig project (like many others) has a change control procedure
consisting of "Request for Change" proposals which are reviewed and
approved by a project management committee (drawn from a number of
organisations).
The idea to to engage with LocationTech is handled no different from
any other change, here is the RFC:
-
http://udig.refractions.net/confluence/display/UDIG/Eclipse+Foundation+LocationTech
From that page you can see some of our background research, the
current status of the proposal, and perhaps most importantly from a
volunteer standpoint the list of tasks associated with the undertaking.
Of interest to this email list is the task listing the LocationTech
proposal which is currently taking shape in version control:
-
https://github.com/uDig/udig-docs/blob/master/admin/proposal/proposal.html
The uDig PSC will be filling this in the different sections of this
proposal over the next couple of weeks.
