I had the same issue on Chrome. 
Furthermore after creating a Observation request and adding a ObservationRegistryListener, my newValue(Observation, LwM2mNode) never gets triggered, so I assume no new values ever come.

You are using implicit cancellation, right? There appears to be no GET with Observe=1.

(I would also boycott the strange Attribute cancel and use the proper CoAP cancellation mechanism).
