For reasons which I have now forgotten, we're using system properties on the Jetty command line instead:

 

-Djava.security.auth.login.config=etc/login.config

-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=49001

-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false

-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.login.config=JmxConfig

 

but these might not work on Mac OS X.
