Hi Mariano,
the discussion has become a bit too lenghty for a mailing list where everybody receives all posts.
how'bout we create a feature request in bugzilla and continue there ?
(and that way we don't loose any comment - mailing list posts tend to get lost much easier)

you could start by implementing the first proposal, and we could come up with a full implementation:
one implemented tests case at a time.
