Re: [jakartaee-platform-dev] Java SE 8 or 11 for Jakarta EE 9?

Hi folks

Yes I agree with you, we need to support both (8 and 11) that like I mentioned before and take advantage that currently, the tcks are passing against java 8 and test this again after the package rename and put java 8 as the minimum required and after the rename process execute again the tests suite with java 11, I think the application servers providers can handle this using some profiles at deployment time something like "Jakarta EE 9 - minimum" and "Jakarta EE 9 - java 11", to allow to the users choose. We need to support at compilation and runtime level.

IMHO

Thank you

Correct, Ivar.  Those removed Java EE technologies have been contributed.  We would have to work through the questions surrounding which of these should be included in Jakarta EE 9 and which should be dropped.  FYI, this also introduces new requirements on the compatible implementations.  We (IBM) have already figured out how to support these missing technologies when we introduced support for Java SE 11.  Just something to be aware of...

Yes, the "missing" Java EE technologies have been contributed by Oracle to Jakarta EE. So we would have to include those that are needed.

If Jakarta EE 9 is going to require Java 11, you'll have to take a decision on how to deal with the APIs that were removed from Java SE. I'm referring to the point about the "missing" Java EE technologies that Kevin made in the original mail.

Do you expect to reach a quick consensus on how to deal with those APIs?

Kind regards,
