Re: [jakarta.ee-wg] Budget question
|
Hello -
Michael, my apologies for not inspecting your question and my
reply more carefully.
The presentation link I sent contained the 2020 approved budget
and 2019 spend data as of November 2019 for 2020 budget comparison
purposes.
In response to your question and Markus', we have prepared a
summary of the Jakarta EE WG 2019 and 2020 budget and spend and
the 2021 budget at:

Thanks
Will

Yes
$ is 1000s in that budget.
Steve
I'd kindly like to extend the request to also see
the actual expenses 2020, and I'd kindly ask to clarify that
"$" does not mean "Dollar" but "Thousand Dollars", correct?
-Markus
Thank you Will for this. I want to take a minute
and make sure I understand what I'm looking at as well as
how it compares to my request. Specifically, the doc you
linked to shows the 2019 and 2020 budgets as approved by
the Steering Committee. If that is correct, that addresses
half of my ask.
The other half of my ask is for the actual expenditures
for 2019. I know when I do a budget for a given year, I
look at the actuals from the previous year more than the
previous year's budget due to changes that may come up
through out the year. In order to understand a given
year's budget I believe you need to be able to see what
was actually spent the prior year. Is that something that
is available? If so, a link to that would also be helpful.
Thanks in advance!
Michael -
For 2019 and
2020 budgets see the following presentation that was
publicly delivered December 11, 2019 at a Jakarta EE
Update Call:

I believe the
links above remain public - let me know if you have
problems accessing.
The 2020 plan
and budget were unanimously approved by the Jakarta EE
Steering Committee.
Please let me
know if you have questions about this.
Thanks

Below, please see the available
public budget tracing, while we wait for
openness:
·
Steering Minutes - July
31st, 2018 The EF proposed to the Jakarta EE
Working Group a USD
2,455,000 per
year.
·
A 3-year Membership commitment was
required while the budget was being forged.
·
It was agreed that the 2018 cost were
USD 0 Steering Minutes for
Sept. 11th, 2018
·
The budget vote was not unanimous. In
Jakarta EE WG, a veto vote is not possible.
Those of us involved in
the conversations worked tirelessly on the budget
via excel sheet, that is in 1 of the minutes
either Marketing or steering but I cannot recall
which meeting as I was one of the Jakartees,
heavily prioritizing cutting the proposed budget.
I
believe that the ecosystem community can
accomplish work. Lower fees are beneficial to the
entire ecosystem and its vibrant future. I hope
that when conversations about the fees/budget
starting in 2021, marks the ending the 3year
membership agreement on December 31st, 2021, THAT
THIS Community, Participant Members, contributors,
committers, anyone who cares about Jakarta EE and
is interested in contributing
is in the room participating on the 2022 onward
budget discussions.
I believe that when everyone understands
that the success of Jakarta EE is not and must not
be focused on its budget but in its community
involvement, we will all be better contributors to
the project.
The #ossDOERs (within the companies
currently investing so much time, resources, money
-the WG fees and the independent Jakartees) are
the ones the single most important not replaceable
variable who must be. Contributors from all
cultures, globally located, with diverse expertise
are the ONES who can help create, decommission,
dream, and sustain the code and documentation and
simplify Jakarta EE.
With this,
I personally thank you, Michael, for caring to
ask for transparency via this forum. For
protecting your resources money and people
while your company helps Jakarta EE move forward
with its rebranding into open source.
Just
to make sure we are all on the same page for
what I'm asking for. I'm not asking for
documents that I would consider new. I'm asking
for:
·
The actual expenses for calendar year
2019.
·
The approved budget for calendar year
2020.
Both
of these, I would have expected to have been
approved/resolved/etc nearly a year ago.
Looking ahead, what is the process for making
these publically available? Thanks in
advance!
@David
I will report back on Jakarta EE budget on this
mailing list, but I am sure the Board
information will be shared at the appropriate
forum as well.
Best,
Tanja

Hello All,
thank you for your question
regarding the budget!
This is absolutely intended
to be public information, but please
bear with us as we are working with
all of our working groups to finalize
their budgets in preparation for our
Board to approve the overall EF
budget. Stay tuned and we will be back
shortly.
This
is great news. Can we share our plan PDF
as well once that has been by the board?
