Re: [jakarta.ee-spec] [BALLOT COMPLETE] Restructuring + Creation/Plan Review for Jakarta Contexts and Dependency Injection 4.1 NOT APPROVED

After reviewing the situation regarding the recent ballots for the CDI 4.1 and CDI EE 4.1 specifications in the committee call today, the consensus reached for Jakarta EE 11 is for the CDI project to include the integration elements of the CDI spec (CDI EE)  in the Platform and Web Profile specifications. This approach follows the  “In the Platform Specification” option as presented in the Integrations Strategies document. The CDI project is requested to make the required updates to prepare for the re-ballot.

Thanks ... Paul

Hi Scott,

I am hoping that a pragmatic resolution to this situation can be found in the Platform Project call on Tuesday, otherwise I will include it as an agenda item for the Wednesday Specification Committee meeting and ask you to join the call (if you are available). That way committee members can provide feedback.

Thanks ... Paul

Isn't the job of the spec committee to vote -1 if they are not in favor of a release/restructuring plan and provide the feedback on what needs to be changed as outlined in the spec process?
It really is not practical for the component teams to track down spec members as there is not even a contact list to begin from. If I were on the spec committee I would call this a failed vote that needs to b rerun, and remind anyone that is objecting to the proposal to vote -1 with information on the expected changes.

Due to an insufficient number of votes the restructuring of Jakarta Contexts and Dependency Injection 4.1, and the creation of Jakarta Contexts and Dependency Injection EE 4.1 were NOT APPROVED.

The CDI Project team is encouraged to reach out to the specification committee members for an explanation of why their votes were withheld. They are also encouraged to follow the ongoing discussion on the topic on the Jakarta EE Platform mailing list.

I discovered a small typo in the list of members eligible to vote in my template. The correct list is:

The Specification Committee is composed of representatives of the Jakarta EE Working Group Member Companies (Fujitsu, IBM, Oracle, Payara, Tomitribe, Primeton Information Technologies, and Shandong Cvicse Middleware Co.), along with individuals who represent the EE4J PMC, Participant Members, and Committer Members.

Greetings Jakarta EE Specification Committee,

I request your vote to approve and ratify the
- restructuring of Jakarta Contexts and Dependency Injection 4.1, and the
- creation of Jakarta Contexts and Dependency Injection EE 4.1

The JESP/EFSP requires a successful ballot of the Specification Committee to approve the restructuring of Jakarta CDI 4.1 and the creation of Jakarta CDI EE 4.1 (as defined in the EFSP).

The relevant materials are available here:

Jakarta CDI 4.1
Jakarta CDI EE 4.1:

Per the process, this will be a seven-day ballot, ending on Monday, November 20, 2023, that requires a Super-majority positive vote of the Specification Committee members (note that there is no veto). Community input is welcome, but only votes cast by Specification Committee Representatives will be counted.

The Specification Committee is composed of representatives of the Jakarta EE Working Group Member Companies (Fujitsu, IBM, Oracle, Payara, Tomitribe, Red Hat, and Shandong Cvicse Middleware Co.), along with individuals who represent the EE4J PMC, Participant Members, and Committer Members.

Specification Committee representatives, your vote is hereby requested. Please respond with +1 (positive), 0 (abstain), or -1 (reject). Any feedback that you can provide to support your vote will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ivar
