I think the way email addresses are handled for Eclipse accounts is very difficult for many of us.
I currently have two accounts (one for gmail, one for tomitribe) because from a git perspective it cannot handle the reality that you can commit code under different email addresses. So while Github itself allows multiple addresses and can track that back to your one account, current Eclipse infrastructure requires you make an account per email address.
It sounds like this recent change is a step in the wrong direction.
Where we need to get to is that it's ok to have multiple addresses for all things.
Does anyone have any ideas on how we can make this reality? (note "fast" is not a requirement. "we'll work towards that" is good)
Hi,I'll start with
my Jakarta EE friends since the webmaster asked for community support...I wrote this issue
against the Eclipse Mailing List processing: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=566973In a nutshell,
they recently removed the ability to register multiple email addresses
with the Eclipse mailing lists. I have been relying on this capability
for the last several years for my Jakarta EE and MicroProfile work. I
have multiple email addresses (work email, open-source development, personal,
etc). Since this change, Eclipse only allows you to register your defined
Eclipse email address with any given mailing list. That is not sufficient
for my needs.In the bugzilla
issue, the webmaster asked for me to gather some community support. Thus,
this note. I know that I can always set up a filter and forward my
messages from one email address to another, but replying to the mailing
list would be prevented from this forwarded (alternate) email address.
That's the kicker for me. I'm very surprised that Eclipse would
take away functionality and not provide any means of doing it another way.
But, for now, they are just asking for community support. So,
if this type of multiple email registration would be helpful for you (even
if you don't plan to use it), could you reply to this email thread or provide
a comment on the issue? If you think I'm just being nuts, that's
okay, keep that to yourself... :-)Thanks!
