Re: [iot-pmc] Request assistance for OM2M 1.0.0 Release

Hi Mahdi,

Yes, I am certainly aware of semantic versioning! I just felt that this isn’t necessarily applied to <1.0 versions as in incubation things anyhow are considered to be unstable.

So fine for me, +1 then!

Cheers,
Kai

Eclipse OM2M 1.0 is a major release that is not backward compatible with the previous one. We changed completely form SmartM2M standard to the new oneM2M standard. I followed the following convention mentioned in the "create release page":

"The release name must start with a number, and may contain major and minor version numbers, a service number, and extra information; e.g. "9", "5.6 (Kepler)", or "1.0.1"."

I am familiar with the following convention:

"Given a version number MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH, increment the:

  1. MAJOR version when you make incompatible API changes,
  2. MINOR version when you add functionality in a backwards-compatible manner, and
  3. PATCH version when you make backwards-compatible bug fixes.

Additional labels for pre-release and build metadata are available as extensions to the MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH format."

Mahdi

Ok, thanks for the info. Could you briefly elaborate why you then didn’t go from 0.8.0 to 0.9.0 instead?
As mentioned, a 1.0 release usually indicates a graduation.

Kai

Hello Kai,

Thanks. I see great potential for such integration. We can work on it. It should be pretty straightforward ;-)

I confirm that the project still in incubation phase.

Hi Mahdi,

looks good to me and I can’t wait to see it being integrated with Eclipse SmartHome :-)

Just one questions: the version 1.0.0 seems to indicate that this is a graduation release. Is this the case or is the project still in incubation phase?

Best regards,
Kai
