Re: [incubation] Tuleap, try it now
|
Hi,
In our others projects, we use Tuleap daily to manage the tasks and all
the project data (roadmap, delivery, etc.). This is really more simple
and adapted for this kind of things than Bugzilla. I think that Tuleap
will at least answer to this need, which is not adressed by the tools
currently offered by the Eclipse infrastructure.
If this Tuleap instance is really here to stay, we will be happy to use
it for our Polarsys project ESF ! We are facing some problems to share
informations between committers and Tuleap will certainly help us.

Denis/all,
Thanks for the clarification. Do Eclipse projects qualify to use it
though and is it just a trial or free at least for Open Source
projects (similar to GitHub, etc..)?
The software is fully open source https://www.tuleap.org/
The hardware is provided by the Eclipse Foundation, and the instance
is supported by Manuel Vacelet from Enalean and myself (accepting
account).
Whereas other tools could be introduced on the side (e.g. Sonar,
Nexus, etc.) we are currently in a chicken-and-egg situation with
Tuleap since it is not one of those tools where you can / want to
duplicate your information. The problem is that to have the tool
accepted by the EF the projects need to show interest, but to do that
we need project to be able to start using it for real. On the other
hand if projects are being told not to use it then we won't get
anywhere :)
At this point, EGerrit made the bet that the tool will be here to stay
and migrated everything there. Maybe we'll be wrong and we'll move
back to bugzilla :)
Another thing to consider in this discussion is:
- the long term viability of bugzilla. BZ is on life support and will
never receive any agile planning capability
- is BZ still the right tool for the job?

Just to clarify -- the Tuleap instance at tuleap.eclipse.org is meant to
be used as a test bed for the tool, and is not part of the Eclipse
Foundation's supported infra. It is not operated, maintained or backed
up by Webmaster.
Furthermore, while it can likely be used in conjunction to supported
Infra, it is not clear to me that is can be used as a replacement for
approved tools, such as Git, Gerrit, GitHub, Bugzilla and GH Issues.

Hello,
A few months ago I announced the availability of a trial
installation of
Tuleap at the Eclipse Foundation. Though a few of us tried it, no team
adopted it to perform their development. This has now changed. I'm
happy
to report that the EGerrit project completed its move to Tuleap. You
can
see the project page at https://tuleap.eclipse.org/projects/egerrit.
Here are a few things that we, at EGerrit, liked about Tuleap:
- First and foremost, the ability to have a Kanban board with the
columns the team needs
(https://tuleap.eclipse.org/plugins/agiledashboard/?group_id=102&action=showKanban&id=6#/kanban).
Beyond the obvious benefit to the team, I think this board is a very
efficient tool to communicate the status and roadmap of the project to
the community. I'm pretty excited to see if this helps us grow.
- Customization of the "new bug" page on a per-project basis. For
example in EGerrit, we ask for the Eclipse version being used
https://tuleap.eclipse.org/plugins/tracker/?tracker=30&func=new-artifact
- Another nice feature is the ability to have all the information about
the project in one place. You will notice that the EGerrit project page
shows a short recap of the project, the list of hudson jobs, and even a
pie chart of where our bugs sit.
What has changed to make EGerrit move to Tuleap?
- Enalean has built a tool that makes it super quick to import bugzilla
bugs into Tuleap.
- Support for OAuth has been added to Tuleap and the Eclipse Foundation
OAuth support is on its way.
There are several possibilities to learn more about Tuleap:
- Attend EclipseCon France next week and talk to the Tuleap team who
will be presenting (https://www.eclipsecon.org/france2016/node/2658)
and
have a booth where they will be able to help you migrate
(https://www.tuleap.org/eclipsecon-france-make-your-Eclipse-project-more-agile)
- Open a ticket in the community project at
https://tuleap.eclipse.org/projects/Community/
I'm hoping that you will give Tuleap a try because I really think it is
the right tool for the job.
Pascal
Ps: I'm not in any form of commercial relationship with Enalean
