Eclipse Foundation, would you support/host a service
that collects/shares error logs (basically that’s what it is)?
Marcel,
I am not sure if I understand the requirement well enough to say yea
or nay. My initial reaction is that the error reporting client that
would go into the packages is the easy part. The hard part is
building and maintaining the knowledge base that gives users some
sort of useful guidance about the errors they're experiencing. Does
anyone know if Mozilla's implementation of this stuff is open
source? Is there anything there that we could leverage? Given that
they're open source and they use Bugzilla, maybe there is something
there that could help.
Could I suggest that a bug be opened (pls add me to the cc) and that
you talk with Wayne and Denis at EclipseCon about the requirement.
Denis in particular is well known to be easily swayed after the 7th
beer.
The Eclipse Foundation is pretty happy to offer services that will
help the community. If this is something that could help both users
and committers, that does seem like a big win.
