Re: [ice-dev] ICE logos, icons, etc.

I emailed the IP team and we will see what they say. Arguably it is very common, c.f. - Google Images.

Yes.  I can't remember where I saw it unfortunately.

I think you should probably get this cleared with Eclipse legal as well. I’ve seen this logo used before, so it would be prudent to ensure it’s not infringing anyone’s trademark.

Adam,

This looks really good, thanks!

The guys and I just looked at it and we had two questions:
1.) Can you send us a version that says "The Eclipse Integrated Computational Environment" instead of just "Integrated Computational Environment" please? Technically the former is the full name of the project.
2.) When we have all of this finalized, will you send us low and high res versions in each of the background colors that you sent earlier of each icon, the full logo, a partial logo with the tesseract plus ICE, and the tesseract and ICE on their own? This will let us move all of these elements around on their own.

Alex McCaskey will send out an image to feature on the new website in addition to the images that are already on our site at http://www.eclipse.org/ice .

Hey Jay Jay,

Attached are some quick ideas of the icons. Take a look and let me know what you think. If there are different concepts that you might need icons to help describe just let me know. (like maybe in the user tutorials or wiki?) Also as I will be mocking up the website home page soon. Are there any images that you have that you would like to see used prominently on the site?

Thanks!

Adam,

I think this looks really good and I like the choice of backgrounds. As for the perspective issues that Robert mentions, I see what he is saying, but I'm not sure what we can do about it. That is, the projection of a tesseract from any dimension into 3D is a cube, and from 3D to 2D it is either a square or hexagon depending on the projection angle. Personally I it looks pretty cool and thought provoking.

But, Robert, call me out if you want!

Hey Jay Jay,

I’ve adjusted the logo to address the perspective concerns. I really like the symmetry of the logo, so I’ll try to solve the perspective issue with a gradient. What are your thoughts?  Also I’ve place the logo on a variety of background colors to give you an idea of the logos versatility.

Thanks!

Everyone,

Please see Adam's email below and let us know what you think about his proposal for the new ICE logo.

I like it and want to go with it, with my only proposed change being to make the tesseract and word "ICE" bigger. (Cut away more of the empty space.)

Hey Jay Jay,

Hope you had a great weekend! I was thinking over the weekend about the idea of making the ICE logo a “tesseract”. This would give the logo a scientific element while keep the ice cube shape. Also hinting at the idea of a fourth dimension for those who know what a tesseract is. I like the wire frame look as well because it reminds me of a computer simulation.

Take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks!
Adam Malin
