Re: [ice-dev] ICE Listener at Port 9278

Ram,

I thought that might be the case. No worries on the confusion! My suspicion was that this was the issue - stable (master) vs. unstable (next), but it is always good to know for sure! Thanks!

Hello Jay,

I had downloaded the 7th September (approximate) version of ICE binary. I built the 'next' branch.

As I wrote this, I realized I had used the stable version. I checked with the unstable version (which 'next' would correspond to?) and I see no open port there.

I will check once more but it looks like there is no issue with the port then. Apologies for the confusion.

Regards,
Ram

Ram,

That's a great question. Good find. Which version did you download and which branch are you building?

Hello Robert,

I had switched to a new workspace. ICE restarted and I didn't open any new connections, but I still see the port at 9278 being used. Only when I close ICE, it's freed up.

I am just confused why the downloaded version seems to open up a listener, whereas the built version does not. I assumed they must be almost identical.

Ram

Hello Ram,

Did you set up any remote connections on the downloaded version? Some ICE connections to other programs are set up to try to connect automatically at the start of each session. You can try to create and open a fresh workspace and see if the port is still be used.

Hello ICE-Dev,

If I run the downloaded version of ICE, I see that there is a java process at port 9278 (using netstat). Now I build ICE manually (using the 'next' branch) and close down all open ICE sessions (so that port 9278 is freed).

Then when I run this built version of ICE, I don't see any listening process at the same port.

I am using this "netstat check" to verify my R-OSGi changes. However, even without my changes, I am not able to observe the built version of ICE opening up a listener at port 9278. Is this expected or am I missing a setting here?

Thanks,
Ram
