[ice-dev] XSEDE tutorial

Robert and I met this morning to go over the XSEDE tutorial. I’ve also created a tutorial outline that shows the breakdown of topics. I don’t expect the timing to be right at this stage, we will need to run through it next week to see what adjustments need to be made.

Here are my notes from the meeting:

General:
- get account information for xsede machines
- decide which demo app to use (see below)
- Jay suggested putting linux live on USB drives
- update USB drives with ICE Neon
- update installation documentation (avoid running ICE from USB drive)

Module 2: Creating item
- fix neon build, bug in the new item wizard
- do we use synchronized projects?
	- need to get input file to remote system
	- need to get output files for visualization
- work out how to launch on the xsede machine (SLURM/Torque)

Module 3: Resource component:
- looking good, needs to be tested

Module 4: Visualization component:
- testing/docs for Paraview?
- decide if visit/paraview is local or remote
- does fern generate output data that can be visualized? if not, use different application?
- test remote visit/paraview
- need visit 2.9.2, latest paraview 10.
- would be nice to show an application that uses mesh or geometry file actually being used

Module 5: Extending
- needs to be tested for Neon
- tutorial needs to be updated to remove reference to EASE menu
