Yes, it is used by the production profile in the pom.xml in org.eclipse.ice.repository to specify the location of the repo. I just needs to be different so they go into different locations, but can be anything we want.

I notice that the master and next poms have "master" and "next" for their release names respectively. Will we just need to make sure that we keep them that way?
