Re: [glassfish-dev] Project Lead election for David Matějček on Eclipse GlassFish®
|
Yes, it is a real election. There were
several issues, we discussed them with Alexander and Eclipse
webmasters, however the web form did not work for few days. First
issue was that the template was just copy pasted from committers,
and I confused Alexander when I wrote him to just ignore it (so he
did). It made sense, because all required information about me, my
intentions, my work on GlassFish and related projects is quite
visible on GitHub and even outside, so I don't think it is a
critical issue that it wasn't linked from the form. Also we did
not find any forms written for past nominations, so I would expect
they are not much important except this discussion thread, where
everyone watching GlassFish project already knows who I am and
what I do for GlassFish.
Sure, Alexander could close the
nomination and start it again, but I asked him to wait, because it
would create yet another level of confusion. Instead I wrote the
short message here to the mailing list, so anyone could ask before
voting. The most active committers already voted.
It is perfectly valid to vote -1, your
questions are valid too. I don't know if you would yet consider
changing your vote or if you are already decided.
I will copy paste from Eclipse website:
Project
Leads are the first link in the project leadership chain and
the primary liaison between the project team and the Eclipse
Management Organization, or EMO. The EMO will, for example,
ensure that the project leads are looped in in all matters
regarding project governance. In cases where public channels
should not be used, for example in the case where the security
team receives a vulnerability report, the project lead is the
first point of contact.
Then I would expect that leader (or at
least one of leaders) of the project should be someone very active
around the project. GlassFish doesn't have such active leader.
Technically we already do parts of the role's responsibilities
together with Arjan, Alexander, Piotr, and even Ondro despite he
is not even a committer (we should probably nominate him).
However, we are still quite isolated as committers, while official
leaders are mostly silent.
I feel confident to represent the whole
team of committers, coordinate the team and be the main point of
contact in the project. It would be easier for the team to have an
active project lead, who would support them in resolving project
issues (ie. Jenkins issues, TCK testing, communication with EMO,
etc.)
Yet several relevant links:
Thank you,
David.

So is this a real election? I thought it was
accidental due to the glitches. There is nothing in the election
nomination as to why you want, need or should be project lead.
What will you want to do as project lead that you can't do as a
committer? How will you carry out the responsibilities of a
project lead in the Eclipse process?
I will vote -1 to this as I think this needs a
proper completed nomination. My vote is not a vote against David
specifically.
