As a work-around, you could query with a transformation that turns your attribute into a string for grouping, something like:

new Query(typeName, filter, new String[] { "myInt", "dtg", "geom", "grouping=strConcat('g', myInt)"})

Then group by "grouping".

I did not test with other types, but I think it will be the same except for String.
