Is the feature name in GeoMesa OEEvents or is it something longer? When 
a layer is published with a different name than the one in the 
DataStore, GeoServer uses classes which 'Retype' feature collections, 
results, etc.

Those Retying classes interact poorly with WPS sometimes...

If the underlying FeatureType has a different name, you might try 
publishing it as that original name.
