Yes, this is strange. Many programs assume that /tmp is a directory
and that they create additional working directories under it.
I'd suggest moving /tmp out of the way, and trying the GDELT ingest
project again. If GeoMesa code is creating the file, then that's
definitely a bug and I'd love to hear more details so that we can
work out a fix.

It seems that tmp was created as a file, could be this the
problem?
