The default encoding ingest shpfile is ISO-8859-1 , but cannot be changed with convert conf。
In org.locationtech.geomesa.convert.shp , there is use org.geotools.data.shapefile.

{ShapefileDataStore, ShapefileDataStoreFactory}

to load feature.

def getDataStore(path: String): ShapefileDataStore = {
    val params = Collections.singletonMap(ShapefileDataStoreFactory.URLP.key, PathUtils.getUrl(path))
    val ds = DataStoreFinder.getDataStore(params).asInstanceOf[ShapefileDataStore]
    if (ds == null) {
      throw new IllegalArgumentException(s"Could not read shapefile using path '$path'")
    }
    ds
  }

But ShapefileDataStore can use .setCharset() encoding,like:

DataStoreFinder.getDataStore(params).asInstanceOf[ShapefileDataStore].setCharset("utf-8") 

Hope to know the encoding of shpfile by reading the cpg file. Or import shpfile by specifying the encoding.Otherwise, garbled characters will appear in some language environments.
