Re: [faces-dev] Faces 4.1 M2 upcomming

Thanks for the clarification.
Therefore, the old managed Beans were replaced by CDI, but we can use the _expression_ "Managed Beans" to talk about CDI when used at the Jakarta Faces level

Hi,

CDI is defined in its own specification. Faces does not redefine it, but merely uses it. For details on CDI see https://jakarta.ee/specifications/cdi/4.0

Hope this helps.

First of all, thank you very much. I don't know if this is the place to talk about this. But I believe that the concept of JSF CDI and CDI in general somehow creates confusion in the nomenclature. Added to this is the concept of EJBs. How are these concepts "defined" in the updated specification?

Hi again,

The release reviews for the first Jakarta 11 wave of specs (CDI, Annotations, _expression_ Language, ..) have been prepared, and I've updated the Faces 4.1 branch to the final staged versions of those. We now also have 4.1 TCK coverage, so we're all set for the M2 release.

I'm going to stage this release today (along with a corresponding Mojarra implementation), and if there are no blocker problems found we can push this to maven central at a later date.

Note that M2 is still a milestone and does not have to be perfect, but nevertheless I think we're pretty close to our final 4.1 artefact.

Kind regards,
Arjan Tijm

Hi,

Just an update; the signature test has been fixed with some herculean effort by James R. Perkins. Scott Stark released the fixed version (2.1) and it now all works.

Some additional tests have been added to 4.1 and subsequently some extra fixes have been made as well. The spec document has been updated as well. There is however no 4.1 coverage yet, so any PR for that would be highly appreciated.

All together we're still in a super good state, thanks to everyone who contributed!

Hi,

The Faces 4.1 branch seems to be in pretty good shape for both the API (via Mojarra) and the TCK.

The TCK is however failing the signature generation (which is crazy difficult for some reason) and there is no coverage yet for anything new in 4.1. It does pass fully though.

Without objections I'd like to target 4.1 M2 for the end of this month, hopefully with the signature test working and some 4.1 coverage.

The deadline has been extended, among others because of JDK 17 troubles at the platform level. We now have exactly two months until the final(?) deadline, which is at 2024-04-14, so there's some time left for refinements if needed.

Thoughts?

Kind regards,
Arjan Tijms
